The internet is a wonderful thing. You can spend hours looking up all kinds of things about people, especially those who are involved in politics in any way. So without further ado, a random collection of interesting, odd and obscure links I stumbled across today while googling the Oak Bay-Gordon Head candidates.

Ida Chong has a twitter feed

So does Steven Johns, the Green candidate, although it hasn’t been updated since March.

Jessica van der Veen may lack twitter, but she does update her Facebook page fairly regularly.

Ida Chong is the only candidate to have a Wikipedia article about them.

She has the article because she is a sitting MLA. This makes her a whole lot more boring to google, as the truly interesting links are buried.

This is not Ida Chong (the MLA).

An interesting interview with Jessica van der Veen on theatre done in early 2008. This quote made me laugh:

Oh look! A windmill! Must dash…

Her theatre work got her listed on Theatre BC’s talent bank.

Jessica may have been in the movie industry. At least IMDB thinks so. I suspect this is probably her, given the uniqueness of her name and the fact that most of the credits are from Vancouver-made productions. Whosdatedwho and tv.com also have profile pages for a Jessica van der Veen. As do hundreds of other tv/movie sites that attempt to list every named actor under the sun.

This isn’t Jessica (LinkedIn profile)

Jessica likes mixed-member proportional systems. She told the Citizens Assembly so in 2004.

Currency trading was interesting enough in 1999 to get Jessica to write a letter to the editor of the Vancouver Sun. No, I don’t understand what the issue is either.

The Marxist-Leninist Daily covered Jessica’s fight to save school grounds.

Lastly, Wikipedia has a good overview for Oak Bay – Gordon Head, including the results from the last few elections. Unknown if the population count is accurate to the 2005 ridings or the 2009 ones.
